Drawings

Over the last 40 years, Jamali has created some 5,000 figurative pen and ink drawings.  They are masterfully executed on handmade archival paper, or cork paper, with minimal color.  As a classically trained painter, Jamali’s drawings take inspiration from classical Italian figurative motifs inorder to evoke a lyrical beauty.  Linear elements, reminiscent of images from an ancient past are combined with a dark sense of humor.

 

Jamali conceived and executed each drawing as a final, complete statement, none were ever intended as a preliminary sketch for a painting. In this regard their value is exceptionally high.
